Jetstar clears bin space

JETSTAR has revealed it has begun taking emergencing equipment out of the overhead lockers in its 177-seat A320 jets in Australia and New Zealand.

Spokesman Simon Westaway says the move is designed to free up locker space in response to the trend by passengers to increase the amount of carry-on baggage they are bringing aboard in response to new checked baggage fees.

Plane maker Airbus has also revealed it is modifying the design of the latches on the overhead lockers in its A320 planes because they’re breaking as passengers attempt to stuff more and more carry-on luggage in overhead bins.
